❄️ Cold — Soft & Rubbery Bond

Chemistry
Free-radical reaction stalls; polymer chains stay short and unlinked.
Physical state
Soft, rubbery or tacky — lacking tensile strength.
Failure type
Peel & separation. Shoe stretches or pulls off easily under load.
Prevention
Pre-warm glue + heat the cold shoe metal & hoof wall to avoid thermal quenching.

🔥 Hot — Glassy & Brittle Shatter

Chemistry
Rapid exotherm causes hyper-crosslinking; flex agents fail to phase-separate.
Physical state
Hard, dense, rigid matrix — behaves like porcelain or glass.
Failure type
Shear & impact shatter. Zero shock absorption; pops cleanly off under impact.

Core-cool cartridges in an ice cooler (~60°F) to restore chain flexibility & open time.

  • Thermal heat-sink trapWarm glue on cold metal or cold hooves freezes the cure right at the contact layer.
  • Surface pre-heatingBriefly pass a heat gun over the shoe rim & dorsal wall to reach ~70°F before dispensing.
  • No direct flameWarm cartridges gradually in a heater box — never use a torch flame or microwave.
